Elkay Manufacturing is founded on January 26, 1920 in 2100 square feet of rented space on Chicago’s Near North Side. Founded by Leopold Katz and his son, Louis, Elkay strives to make the best quality sinks and provide the best customer service.
In 1935, we introduce our first stainless steel sink and by 1938, we become America’s first mass producer of stainless steel sinks.
Elkay begins to die draw stainless steel bowls. This innovation cuts production costs in half and Elkay soon becomes the nation’s largest manufacturer of stainless steel residential sinks — a position Elkay still maintains today.
Elkay becomes the world’s largest manufacturer of residential sinks.
Elkay begins producing our own line of water coolers.
Elkay’s growth outside of the U.S. continues by aquiring E.B. Técnica Mexicana, the largest stainless steel sink producer in Mexico, and Vinca, a manufacturer of composite sinks.
Elkay acquires Quetzal in Mexico, further expanding our product offerings for commercial kitchens and retail environments as well as residential kitchens and livng spaces in that fast-growing market.
2010 Elkay begins selling our Bottle Filling Stations. The first shipment was on February 10, 2010. Since that time, our bottle fillers have only gained popularity, and continue to provide convenient hydration with a rapid fill of filtered water to quench thirst and minimize plastic bottle waste in the environment.
December 2015 – received first CE certification for 220V/50Hz products.
To meet the demands of a changing marketplace, over the years we have expanded from our base business to include the manufacture of faucets, water coolers, drinking fountains and bottle fillers. We then added a cabinetry division and achieved our goal of being a more complete supplier of kitchen and bath products for both residential and commercial installations.
